Pilot Shaker: I really like this pencil. Both its comfort and design. I definitely recommend it. The only problem is the price is a little high. If someone were to give me a mechanical pencil, this is definitely the one I would like to get. I have only used it once in my life at a friend’s house and there is no doubt in my mind that this model is above all others.

Crucially, the pencil itself stays the same length, unlike wooden pencils which get shorter as you sharpen them (even with one of the best pencil sharpeners). And because replacement leads are cheap it saves you money over time, because you won't have to buy new pencils. Why it made the cut:The Tombow MONO graph mechanical pencil is a durable, affordable writing tool full of features you won’t have to splurge on. The rOtring mechanical pencil can easily last you a lifetime. It’s designed with a full metal body that gives it its 0.8-ounce weight heft. This provides a clear center of gravity, which results in cleaner, more precise lines. Still, this mechanical pencil is more than twice as heavy as the Pentel GraphGear 500, so if you’re not used to this weight, it may take you a bit longer to get used to it. However, for students or individuals who are just starting their design and drafting careers, this should not pose to be much of a problem. This is mainly due to the fact that newbies do not have to spend hours holding a pencil to create a drawing. That job is chiefly done by experienced professionals. First of all, good evening everyone. Here I will talk about my thoughts on pencils based on my own experience. The grip of this pencil is metallic. Some argue that it provides a sleek design and firm grip, while others opine that the metal tends to slip when the pencil is used with greasy or sweaty hands. With a normal pencil, once the graphite tip (commonly referred to as 'lead') has blunted, you need to sharpen it using a pencil sharpener. A mechanical pencil, in contrast, usesan internal spring to push the lead upwards into the barrel, when you press the button at the other end. When the lead has been fully used, you then simply insert a new replacement. Why are mechanical pencils better than wooden pencils? The GraphGear 500 is the standard model, which is excellent for precision in technical drawings and possesses a nice, lightweight. Whereas the GraphGear 1000 is the heavier, all-metal version that encompasses some solid updates – such as a retractable point – that give this model an edge. Shape matters. I tend to stay away from bulky mechanical pencils because I feel like they take away from my precision. Apart from these pencils, I also used Faber Castell, but I can say that I have a Faber Castell phobia. I don't like any of the Faber Castell pencils. And I wouldn't recommend any of them.

Rotring 800: Definitely a problematic pencil. The mechanism is problematic and breaks too many leads. Also, the price is very high. A pen that I would never recommend. This pencil is quite heavy and, therefore, more balanced. And that allows one to write with comfort while attaining a superior grip. It is equipped with a binder clip that enables users to attach it to certain objects.

Both the GraphGear 500 and GraphGear 1000 are quality pencils, but they possess a few key differences. However, you must first understand your requirements before going on to choose the pencil that would be ideal. The GraphGear 500 model serves the purpose of a beginner learning the intricacies of the draftsmanship profession. Seasoned professionals who require faster output, and have to work for very long hours, tend to choose the GraphGear 1000 model for its ergonomic design and well-balanced metal body. This is not your average mechanical pencil, it’s literally a machine and it can be completely disassembled. Tombow SH-300 Grip: Its mechanism is quite good for its price. It hasn't given me any trouble. It can be preferred at low prices. The GraphGear 1000 is noticeably heavier than the 500 models. In addition, the GraphGear 1000 has a retractable lead, whereas the 500 does not. Some may consider the 1000 as an upgraded version of the 500, but the main problem with the GraphGear 1000 is its eraser cap. The small eraser on the GraphGear 1000The GraphGear 1000 is a heavier model with a rotating window on its barrel, allowing you to see which type of lead you are using. Why it made the cut: OK, technically, a lead holder is not a mechanical pen, but it shares enough characteristics that it can pass as one. The Koh-i-Noor Mechanical Hardtmuth Lead Holder is a must-have if you don’t want to get your hands dirty while you sketch.
