Ultimately, Nope is a worthy addition to Jordan Peele’s cinematic oeuvre, if not quite a fully successful one.

MYSTERY MAN OF MUYBRIDGE - A deep dive into THE HORSE IN MOTION by Eadweard Muybridge, its relationship to the Haywoods, and how it relates to the larger themes in NOPE. It is also slower paced and somewhat abstract in comparison, so in trying for a more cerebral horror, he may have strayed a wee bit too far from what audiences have come to expect. The cinematography is top notch and probably the standout feature of the film, while Kaluuya can say an immense amount without even speaking a word. The score makes good use of 3D space, and bass is rich and deep, adding significantly to the effects. Without giving too much away, I’ll say that an incident on a family-oriented sit com went incredibly wrong.The color palette is gorgeous, stretching out over the open wild west of Southern California with brown and grey dirt, those beautiful purple mountains, a blue sky, green shrubs and bushes, and of course, a dark and ominous shape hovers overhead.

Along with a former child star turned family theme park ringmaster who neighbors the siblings, the pair's efforts to chase the spectacle soon bring terrifying consequences and unimaginable horror. In the end, Nope, is somewhat unsatisfying, there is a lot going on, and a lot to see and feel, but becoming involved with the characters and their plight is difficult when Peele seems to be actively discouraging it, while he channels his inner ‘M.Since the antagonist flies, there are innumerable times when the overhead channels are employed to showcase this element; and it is wonderfully realised.

Nope offers seamless special effects throughout its canvas that support rather than carry the story. I’ve found that Daniel Kaluuya tends to mumble his lines, but given his character – it does seem to be consistent. Neither of their identities are known, though they very well could have been black as Emerald claims. The trailer is praised for creating an atmosphere of suspense and excitement without revealing plot details.He never allows a large image of what's hovering in the sky until much later and it's terrifying in all the right ways. Peele has assembled a varied, yet competent cast for this outing and there’s really not a bad performance in the mix. Included in the two-disc set are a digital redemption code coupon, a handful of deleted scenes, a gag reel, and three making-of type featurettes.
