enough said đ€ i ended up liking them so much more than expected, even though they werenât exactly communicating either. Jem communicates with Belial, who though he was destroyed, cannot fully be destroyed because he is a Prince of Hell. however, in all fairness Chain of Thorns wrapped up just fine. justice was served, and everyone gets their happy ending. the epilogue is so important to me it was only filled with soft and heartwarming moments (unlike this one) which are necessary given the distressing experiences this book gave out. so i get that christopher had to die. but did it have to happen in that unfeeling way? yes, there was an interlude signifying the âgrievingâ period of everyone but it wasnât all that realistic. all of them seemed to be more torn up about losing james & matthew to belial tbh and no one except grace even seemed to feel much for him!! that was how i knew the characterizations were all wrong, with that part of the book. thomas was apparently christopherâs closest companion and yet grace felt more for christopher than he did â make it make sense. Now she looked at Matthew and thought, He looks happy. Honestly, plainly happy. And if this trip to Paris might not be her salvation, she could at least make sure it was his.
The other Characters also went from side characters to main characters which had me rooting for them. They all went through various character developments through the progress of the book. I loved that they werenât one-dimensional and I what I loved the most was the bond and love they shared with one another. The Merry Thieves with Oscar â Matthewâs DogJames and Cordelia end the series together and are happy, their fake marriage ultimately becoming a real one! She took a breath and set her shoulders, and not for the first time, Ariadne was reminded that her mother was a Shadowhunter like any other, and confronting hardships was part of her job. âBy the Angel,â she said, in a new, brisk tone, âlife goes on, and we cannot stand in the foyer and fret all day. I have much to attend to⊠the Inquisitorâs wife must hold down the household while the master is away, and all that.âŠâ She waited, gripping the newel post on the landing, until she heard Gideon Lightwoodâs gentle voice. âNo, Flora. Weâve heard nothing since he left for Iceland. We were rather hoping thatâwell, that you had.â
Her mother nodded vaguely, lost in thought. âAnd Gideon Lightwood. They wanted to know if weâd had a message from your father. And here I hoped they had come to say theyâd heard from him.â The first 50% of this book was so bad that I considered dnfing and giving it a one-star rating. I admit that it got better during the last 30%. That's the only reason it's getting two stars from me. I loved their relationship. Their love was strong enough to break the bracelet. James and Cordelia â Chain of Thorns Matthew finally tells his parents about the potion he bought from the Shadow Market that causes the death of his motherâs unborn baby. I shall amuse you with a tale, then,â said Will. âThe tale of my hellride with Balios from London to Cadair Idris, in Wales. Your mother, James, was missingâkidnapped by the miscreant Mortmain. I leaped into Baliosâs saddle. âIf ever you loved me, Balios,â I cried, âlet your feet now be swift, and carry me to my dear Tessa before harm befalls her.â It was a stormy night, though the storm that raged inside my breast was fiercer stillââIâd like to think knowing what Matthew is thinking would have been exciting and maybe a bit painful to hear what goes on in his head. We donât get his POV but we still get a sense of what heâs feeling and going through in the book.
