The first CarPlay adapter I tried, the Cplay2Air, is straightforward: You plug the Cplay2Air directly into the car’s USB-A smart port via the integrated cable. allumez le WiFi et le Bluetooth de l'iPhone, mais ne connectez rien au début. Recherchez le signal Bluetooth du produit sur l'interface Bluetooth de l'iPhone ou de la voiture. So out of all of the tests, the results were in favour of the 3.0 dongle. It is a much faster dongle overall, where boot-up times are reduced by around 5 seconds overall. This in turn results in a faster bootup time overall. Sometimes the 2.0 dongle can get close, so if you already have a 2.0 dongle there may not be such a significant reduction to warrant upgrading to the 3.0 or equivalent dongle.

So you can for example turn up your music while still getting directions at a reasonable volume. Delay

The adapter also features a second USB port for limited charging and wired CarPlay passthrough. The latter however only works by plugging the iPhone in before turning the car’s ignition switch. As soon as the Carlinkit 2.0 adapter has established a wireless connection to the iPhone, plugging the iPhone into the USB passthrough port won’t result in a switch from wireless to wired CarPlay which is perfectly within Apple’s specification though. The wireless CarPlay session however gets disconnected for a few seconds which contradicts Apple’s idea of an interruption-free operation. I would love to see a Hand-off option that allows the current wireless CarPlay session to be terminated when hot-plugging the iPhone via USB and instead establishing a wired connection, accepting the short interrupt. Either that or an interruption-free Charge only mode. Human Machine Interface So if you have the first-generation of dongle, is this second-generation worth upgrading to? Thinking long and hard about it, I don’t think it is. Because software is shared between generations, there will not be any differences in compatibility other than with its hardware. If you think a detachable USB cable or 5.8GHz speeds will help improve the location of your dongle or the connection or the stability in your vehicle, then it might be worth the upgrade. Otherwise, I would wait for more drastic changes or feature improvements. Once it has booted up and it displays its boot menu on the CarPlay display. You then need to connect your iPhone to the same Bluetooth ID that is displayed on the boot menu screen. On pairing to the dongle from my iPhone I could see the same connection and CarPlay boot-up speeds as seen on the other dongles I have tried that run this same firmware. I say most, because I was told by the vendor upon requesting the device that “Magic Box doesn’t have 100% compatibility with Honda.” That could be a problem since I’m testing with a 2018 Honda CR-V. “But most of the time, it works,” they said. So why not try it?There is however also another breed of wireless CarPlay adapters ( JoyeAuto/MMB) which are more like complete set-top boxes, running a full-blown Android OS, for example allowing one to watch video on the dashboard. I am not really sold on the idea, violating safe-driving principles. Plus the more potent processor will sip quite a bit more power while at the same time not helping with wireless CarPlay performance. I wonder whether every car can handle the high power draw via USB. There is certainly nothing left for charging a connected phone. In my test, I fired up the T-Box Plus to my Pioneer 93DAB receiver in my demo pod. Bootup time took around 39-42 seconds before resting on its somewhat improved main menu interface, this time includes a bootup sequence that can’t be removed. Your car model has a USB port, and the cable that comes with the dongle is equipped with a default USB-C to USB-A port. I don’t really know what the Sound Quality setting is really all about. It however does not seem to have an impact on audio lagging and reliability in combination with the MIB2. CarPlay only supports 16-bit audio at 44.1 and 48kHz audio. Maybe only the first is advertised in case CD is selected.
