I have enjoyed this series immensely from book one and would say please read the other books before this one as this brings together threads from a few of the previous books.

Anyone who likes cosy mysteries, a rural English setting, a dash of romance, and vivid engaging writing by an author who clearly loves all of those things, will love this series. It tied the narrative strands from the previous books together very well, though I still don't understand exactly how international crime and money laundering work! This author, whether a rising star or a seasoned veteran, has crafted the pages that whisk readers away on this series' journey. Romantic attachments that have been bubbling for a while are cemented, whilst the untrustworthy members of the town have been routed.

Although one of the main story lines that has run throughout the series has been resolved, you are left with the definite feeling that there is much more to come and it is eagerly awaited by this reader! I have a confession to make before I start this review – I love Bruncliffe and all its inhabitants, I was itching to get back to the town.It's cleverly written, with various POVs and the different strands of the story being slowly but steadily woven together. The obvious exception is the perpetrator, who is, in melodramatic fashion, particularly evil and sociopathic. Set in the turbulence of France in the 1960s, Inspector Lucas Rocco finds himself transferred out of Paris to a small village where he’s thrown into local politics and a toxic local murder. The author has brought to life the North Yorkshire landscape and populated it with wonderful characters.
